SCHAPENHELD WORDT NO WAY IN FRANSE BIOSCOOP RELEASE
Op 14 oktober is de Franse bioscoop release van SCHAPENHELD. Door de Covid-19 pandemie was de release erg lang uitgesteld. De film zal in diverse bioscopen door het hele land te zien zijn, onder de titel NO WAY. De première zal plaats vinden in een van de beste filmtheaters van Parijs, de 109 jaar oude Espace Saint-Michel, die de film zo’n 10 weken zal vertonen.
De film draait ook nog steeds op diverse filmfestivals wereldwijd, zoals deze maand in Italië (Euganea Film Festival), Bolivia (FicLaPaz), Oostenrijk (Innsbruck Nature Film Festival), Duitsland (Greenscreen Naturfilmfestival), Polen (18th Włodzimierz Puchalski International Nature Film Festival) en Amerika (Workers Unite Festival). De film won deze week ook nog een prijs op het International Green Screen Nature Film Festival in Eckernförde Duitsland, vorige week een prijs op het International Film Festival in Bolivia en onlangs nog prijzen in the USA, Canada and Japan. De film heeft inmiddels 20 prijzen gewonnen en meer dan 35 nominaties.

Who wouldn’t want to live in harmony with nature as free as possible from financial and social constraints? This film’s protagonist is a shepherd who despite small accomplishments has to finally admit failure after numerous setbacks. The film accompanies him documenting his futile struggles for economic survival. His everyday life is ruled by constraints and regulations, legislation and poverty that leave no room whatsoever for idealism.
His story is contrasted by great images of Dutch Brabant and its largely intact nature. But nothing is as it appears. Stijn Hilger’s lonely struggle is a metaphor for a society that promotes close-to-nature agriculture but forgets its needs and does not subsidize it – declaring it a world cultural heritage instead. This documentation filmed over several years brings that home to us.
